The fact that young adults, and even some teens, will experiment with alcohol has made it a significant health, social and economic problem. And, while many of these individuals develop a problem with their drinking habits, many do not seek help or any kind of treatment to get a handle on their addiction.
According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, there is a significant and unmet need in alcohol abuse treatment for young adults. This latest publication offers insight into how to identify drinking triggers and defuse them, as well as how to recognize the problem drinking cycle and how it can be broken.
Too often, young adults will fall into binge drinking or even alcoholism as a result of simple casual drinking. Without clear guidelines as to how to identify problem drinking, the social drinker can quickly develop and addiction they cannot overcome on their own. And, without clear guidelines as to what defines a drinking problem, he or she may not believe a problem exists or that help is necessary.
Abstinence is always the safe bet as the individual who relies on soft drinks and water to fuel their system doesn’t have to worry about whether they are sober enough to get behind the wheel of a car of if they will have trouble getting up in the morning.
