Teens and young adults may find rapper Snoop Dogg’s dangerous alcoholic beverage a little too appealing, to the alarm of state attorneys and families across the nation.
Called “Blast,” the beverage is made by Pabst Brewing Company and has an alcohol content similar to consuming six beers – with the additional components found in typical energy drinks. Snoop Dogg’s outspoken advertising campaigns use messages including the word “binge,” and advocacy organizations and policymakers have asked that Blast be removed from shelves or have its formula modified.
According to a recent Time NewsFeed, Pabst Brewing Company has responded to comments about Blast, saying that it is in alignment with messages aimed at people who are at least 21 and will use the product responsibly. They also say that the alcoholic percentage of Blast is visible on its label.
Lisa Madigan, Attorney General for Illinois, stated in a letter to Pabst that the Blast product makes alcohol binges seem attractive and fashionable, even though they are linked to numerous deaths and injuries each year.
Snoop Dogg has defended Blast in several interviews, which has been called an element of his personal life choices and habits. However, the beverage and others like it – often with bright colors and fruity, mild flavors – are described as “starter” cocktails for young people, and many experts believe they heighten the risk of alcohol abuse by minors.
