College Students Stay up Late Using Adderall
Throughout our nation, college students in Florida and other states are becoming more and more addicted to the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medicine Adderall. The drug is designed for those with ADHD and unfortunately makes it easy for students to get their hands on and misuse it.
Students say they often become acquainted with it before a big exam because it makes things easier and eliminates distractions, according to a recent news article. One student added it helps with concentration for anything and not just for studying.
Adderall is likely to be abused and that is why it is a substance that is federally controlled. It is also an amphetamine which means it releases the stimulant medication upon immediate consumption. Adderall XR is just a once a day dose that can be effective for 12 hours.
One student even commented that the effects of Adderall made him peppy and social and helped him be more confident in himself. Negative side effects of the drug are severe medical problems such as heart attacks, high blood pressure, seizures, strokes and decreased genital size.
If you have not been prescribed the drug yourself you are at an increased risk of experiencing these side effects. Despite the possibility of death, most students say the positive outweighs the negative when it comes to using Adderall and refer to it as the ‘smart drug’.
Doctors worry that those who aren’t prescribed the drug for medical reasons will become psychologically dependent on it and can even die. Students will typically pay $5 a pill for Adderall from someone with a prescription.
Students at FAMU say going to Sunshine Manor Counseling Services on campus and mentioning a focus problem will almost guarantee a prescription for Adderall. The center denies that allegation and says often when they tell students what needs to be done to obtain a prescription that causes them to leave and not return.
